Governess
A Governess is employed to teach and educate children in a private household. she concentrates on teaching children, not their physical needs. The Governess would normally work with children from age 3 upwards. She would not generally have to undertake nursery duties.
Duties of a Governess:
Tutoring English along with other school subjects such as maths, history, science, art, geography.... depending on the needs of the position.
Focusing on the child’s social, educational and creative development.
Organising activities, outings and games
Liaising with other tutors and/or school teachers, nannies & parents regarding development as required
Teaching musical instruments and other languages if the Governess is bilingual
Teaching manners, etiquette, and social formality.
Working alongside a Nanny or mothers help
Salaries depend on experience start from £600 per week net.
The salaries can be anywhere between £600- £1300 per week net.
Works hours:
Governesses work on average 6-10 hours per day with 2 days off per week.
Negotiable between the family and governess.
